Eduard Punset
**Eduard Punset** was a Spanish jurist, writer, economist, politician, and science communicator. He was active in politics during General Franco’s dictatorship; during the Transition, he was a member of the Union of the Democratic Center (UCD) and later of the Democratic and Social Center (CDS). He was the son of a country doctor from the province of Tarragona. He completed high school in the early 1960s at North Hollywood High School in Los Angeles. In addition to speaking Catalan and Spanish fluently, he learned English and also a little French. He earned a law degree from the Complutense University of Madrid, where he was active in the Communist Party of Spain alongside Jorge Semprún. He continued his studies at the University of London, where he earned a master’s degree in economics, and at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris, where he received a diploma. He later worked as an economics editor for the BBC, as economics director for the Latin American edition of the weekly magazine The Economist (1967–1969), and as an economist for the International Monetary Fund in the United States and Haiti (1969–1973). He wrote popular science books and promoted science through various media outlets. From 1996 to July 2013, he hosted the TVE program Redes, which covered a variety of scientific topics, including sociology, medicine, psychology, biology, and astronomy, among others. Punset was diagnosed with lung cancer in November 2007, from which he recovered. Punset passed away on May 22, 2019, after a long illness, at the age of 82. He was the father of politician Carolina Punset, writer and science communicator Elsa Punset, and Nadia.
