Linda's book Woodland Carex has energized the naturalists and botanists to go forth and identify these most difficult plants. A former botany instructor, the passion for the subject is exceeded only by the difficulty of "getting the shot". Linda's photography is largely "belly botany", getting the photograph from the ant's eye perspective. As a result the images are new to all eyes that scan the forests for unknown plants. Usually 10-20 sedges are beside woodland trails that most walkers dismiss as "just another grass." But sedges have edges, triangular stems called culms, while grasses have round stems. And their seeds (achenes) come in designer packages, either flat or inflated sacs that are their fingerprint in design. By their sacs ye shall know them.
