The daughter of a poor gentleman, Pamela Stone is anxious of making a match while in the company of her feather-witted, but wealthy, cousin Victorine. And Mr. John Whyte, son of impoverished nobility, is expected to marry an heiress like Victorine. It would be folly for Pamela and John to fall in love, especially with each other.
