Uncertainty. Christine read the letter in disbelief. Was she really to have another chance? Could she bear to return to her childhood home to care for her brother's three orphan children? She had run away with a married actor twenty years before and the village had not forgotten the scandal. Hunger and failure and loss of love had altered Christine's golden-haired beauty, but in spite of everything, she was still a starry-eyed girl, waiting for miracles to happen. So she made the journey home to find a new kind of peace and happiness. Until the past came back to haunt her and she found there was no armour against love!
