Based on ten years of ethnographic research in the Amazon, this book documents both traditional practices and those adapted to the thousands of Westerners who visit the jungle every year to try this visionary medicine, and do so with an informative spirit, bringing knowledge that is usually reserved for academic circles to the general public. So instead of a neat analysis, this book uses beautiful and meaningful photographs with short literary pieces: the traditional scene, the funny anecdote, the ethnographic reflection, the moving testimony. But much more than an ethnographic treatise, it is an allegory about globalization, a critical look that reveals the way in which the West stretches across the planet, transforming everything in its path.
