Blackbourne Hall had issued many invitations to Alden Devereaux, but she had refused rather than play the demeaning role of poor relation. But just as her sister's marriage into the wealthy Wrentham family had first brought Alden to the Hudson River estate, now sudden death forces her to return. Alden is not long at Blackbourne Hall before rumors regarding her sister's fatal accident claim her attention. Had Eleanor really committed suicide? Or had she been pushed to her death? Scandal is one thing the Wrentham's will not tolerate, but Alden is determined to find out how-and why-her sister died.
