Blaze is the story of Clayton Blaisdell, Jr. -- known as Blaze -- and of the crimes committed by him and against him. Blaze has been mentally challenged since childhood when his father threw him down the stairs. After escaping an abusive detention center for boys, he hooks up with George, a seasoned criminal, and enters a life of scams and robberies. When George is killed and Blaze is left on his own, he becomes one of the most sympathetic criminals in all of literature. Blaze is a crime story of amazing strength and sadness, shot through with a current of edge-of-the-seat suspense. No Stephen King -- or Richard Bachman -- fan should miss this gripping, unforgettable story. The last of the Richard Bachman novels, recently recovered and published for the first time, Stephen King's "dark half" may have saved the best for last. (back cover)
