*Edge of Eternity* is the third and final novel in Ken Follett’s **Century Trilogy**. Set between 1961 and 1989, it follows the descendants of the families introduced in *Fall of Giants* and *Winter of the World* as they confront the Cold War, the civil-rights movement, the Vietnam War, political scandal, and the division of Germany. In the United States, George Jakes, a young Black lawyer, becomes involved in the struggle against segregation and later enters national politics. In the Soviet Union, Kremlin aide Dimka Dvorkin witnesses the dangerous maneuvering behind major Cold War decisions, while his twin sister, Tania, secretly challenges the Communist system. In East Germany, Rebecca Hoffmann and musician Walli Franck experience the fear and oppression created by the Berlin Wall. Other members of the interconnected families become caught up in espionage, protest movements, popular music, political ambition, and forbidden relationships. The novel moves through major historical events—including the Cuban Missile Crisis, President Kennedy’s assassination, the rise of the Berlin Wall, Watergate, and the collapse of Soviet influence. Blending fictional characters with real historical figures, Follett explores how ordinary people’s personal choices can become entangled with world-changing events. Ultimately, *Edge of Eternity* is a sweeping story about freedom, political power, family loyalty, and the long struggle to bring the Cold War to an end.
