"Excellent collection of works regarding local and state elections. Focuses on highly competitive or conflictual electoral contests within important regions in the 1990s: Chihuahua, Baja California, and Michoacán in 1992; San Luis Potosí and Tabasco in 1991; the city elections of Mazatlán in 1989 and Mérida in 1990; and local elections in states of Michoacán and Guerrero. Editors argue that grass-roots resistance is prompting the democratic transformation reflected in these cases"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 57.
