The situation was quite intolerable Venetia hadn’t wanted the assignment in Hong Kong. Acting as secretary to a neurotic, unhappily married woman didn’t appeal to her — no matter how important her foreign-office chiefs assured her it was. The job turned out to be even more troublesome than she had feared. And the biggest problem Venetia encountered was her employer’s attractive husband, Neil Adams. Anger made her reckless. “I’ve been here long enough to see what’s going on,” she told him. “I know I haven’t the right to talk to you like this, but I can’t stand by any longer and watch you being made a fool of.”
