"Eminently scholarly and probably definitive edition of Zárate's well known 1555 chronicle of the discovery and conquest of the Perus incorporates author's corrections from 2nd, or 1577 edition. The introductory studies by Pease G.Y. and Hampe Martínez on Zárate, and on his work and the multiple editions and versions thereof, are exceptionally informative. Editors have added name and place indexes"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
