When Marianne Barnett was orphaned in Napoleonic France, a dashing Englishman disguised as a French officer risked his life to return her to England and her uncle's love and protection. Little did he know what was in store for her.... Unloved and neglected for twelve years, she is now about to come into her own - but her bankrupt uncle plans to seize her rightful inheritance. Her only hope is the gallant rescuer she knew as "Jacques," Colonel Jack Caldwell. A fateful encounter has brought him back into her life. But after Jack saves Marianne, can she save him and the love they were born to share?
