This book studies how a gaucho, rural and nineteenth-century tradition was consolidated as the quintessential tradition for the Argentine nation. To make visible the threads that shaped the process, the author analyzes how representatives of the Catholic Church, the Armed Forces and different educational environments elaborated their own narratives to think about tradition, linking re-readings of a "common past" to conjunctural needs. The interventions of different sectors, the interests aroused by the theme, the institutional motivations, the speeches and the social practices involved in the process of elaboration and expansion of the consensus whose construction is analyzed in this book, went through sinuous ways that highlighted contradictions, vanishing points, agreements and disagreements that Matías Emiliano Casas presents, meticulously articulated, in the five chapters that make up this book.
