Young Brant Hildreth had a man-sized job on his hands. As the new owner and editor of the half-defunct Bugle, a small country weekly, he had just fired the opening shot in his dangerous campaign to break the power of the corrupt county politicians. From the moment the first edition hit the street with its startling headline, his life wasn't worth a plug nickel. Brant didn't care -- he had youth, determination, and courage on his side. But, in the end, it was his lovely corn-colored collie, Thane, who led him to the evidence needed to bring victory for Brant and an end to the corruption.
