Four separate incidents test the power of the Chrestomanci, a powerful enchanter with nine lives, to control misuses of magic on various worlds. Longtime friends from the Chrestomanci novels rub elbows with new characters in four magical Chrestomanci stories. A car-thief warlock matches wits with a little girl and a Demon Dog. Cat Chant (from Charmed Life) and young Tonino (from The Magicians of Caprona) help the souls of eight Chrestomancis escape an evil enchanter. The youngest best-selling dreamer needs Chrestomanci's help when the characters in her dreams go on strike. And as the gods of an orderly world try to destroy a young man for asking questions, Chrestomanci, as always, lends a hand. Rippling with humor and bubbling with magic, this is fantasy as only Diana Wynne Jones can write it! In paperback for the first time.
