"A careful selection of stories by 23 writers from Darío Ruíz Gómez (b. 1937) to Mario Mendoza (b. 1964). Includes only one female author, Marvel Moreno, but otherwise the selection is balanced. Work complements El cuento colombiano, edited by Eduardo Pachón Padilla (see HLAS 50:3375). Giraldo illustrates the main tendencies in the Colombian short story, most notably 'romper con el macondismo y el ruralismo.'"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
