The book SEFT-1, product of transdisciplinary art project of Iván Puig Domene and Andrés Padilla resulting in a review about the historical circumstances that developed the railroads in Mexico. SEFT-1, which means is a vehicle that looks like a spaceship and makes science fiction expeditions that put into play the ideology of progress as opposed to the abandonment, obsolescence and peoples' relationship with technologies. All part of the question why there are no passenger trains? The idea of this art project and research spaces disused railway across the country was Iván Puig and Andrés Padilla, authors of texts and photographs, who were dedicated to making the journey using the tracks that are still in good condition and continued on the paved roads that replaced, when it was no longer possible to continue on the track. The ferronautas departed on November 20, 2010 from the National Art Museum in Mexico City, to explore the forgotten branch of Yucatán, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Jalisco and Coahuila, collecting both images and videos archaeological sites and the forgotten roads, to revive the memory of the inhabitants of that phantom circuit. About SEFT-1, the art critic Cuauhtémoc Medina wrote in the cultural section of the newspaper Reforma, "SEFT-1 is a special case where the multimedia art departs from all "tecnolatría", in the service of reflection and social memory. Their retro-futurism raised both in form and in the results of its archeology and mapping a viewpoint towards societies and extraordinary landscapes that encapsulate the experience of modernization." (Our translation). Project was funded by FONCA, a national endowment for the arts.
