"Yehiya Ayyash, the Palestinian bomb builder known to the world simply as "The Engineer," killed 130 Israelis and wounded nearly 500 during a twenty-four-month campaign of terror." "Charged with the task of catching Ayyash was the Shin Bet, the most secretive and elite of Israel's secret services.". "Samuel M. Katz, a security and special operations expert, reveals here for the first time how the Shin Bet, its director and its agents in the field, conducted an unprecedented and merciless search and destroy mission against one man. Ayyash, however was not an easy target, even for the Shin Bet. He was highly intelligent and elusive and possessed a sophisticated support network.". "Each time the Shin Bet closed in on Ayyash, he managed to slip through their fingers, until, at last, they tracked him down and killed him by placing a sophisticated bomb in his cellular phone." "The Hunt for the Engineer is a real-life thriller that provides a rare look behind the scenes of Israel's secretive security apparatus and how it operates within the stark context of life and death in the Holy Land, where bombs are once again shaping the political landscape."--BOOK JACKET.
