Twenty-five years after starring in a gamberrada that will mark the course of the life of a group of friends, the nameless narrator of this novel receives a message from Simón, a member of the gang who disappeared one fine day without leaving a trace, with an unexpected proposal: why don't you write about us? About what happened to us? Like a fake detective novel, Clean Wheat follows in the footsteps of a writer willing to do anything to shape the perfect novel while investigating a past that hardly resembles what he remembers from his childhood lost in a suburb. A literary game in which the reader is invited to connect the pieces of a clever puzzle. Armed with an intelligent sense of humor and willing to jump all the boundaries between reality and fiction, Juan Manuel Gil has won the Short Library Award 2021 with this lucid tribute to the universal power of storytelling and the refuge that reading implies.
