"Two outstanding examples of the Mexican archaeological patrimony are presented in this volume: a human craneum and a shell, both engraved with in the purest Mixteca-Puebla style, examples of which have been identified in vast areas of what is now Mexico. The examples discussed here correspond to the blossoming of this style during the Postclassic period in present-day State of Oaxaca. With precise data, resulting from rigurous studies and the use of the latest technology, the authors show the damage caused to archaeological materials by looting, trafficking, and collecting, as well as the complex and sometimes twisted road for the recovery of the patrimony removed from its original territory. The volume contains articles by specialists in several fields of historical knowledge, with a wide range of academic approaches, with the purpose of shedding light on the travels of these two magnificent examples of prehispanic thought and art."--
