The work of Dr. Gabriel Ramón Joffré explores the initiation and development in the city of Lima in the artistic style of Neo-Peruvian during the first half of the 20th century. The author mentions that the Neo-Peruvian "is one of the many ways in which to represent or materialize our national identity, providing specific attributes to an object or artistic product so to make it our own, to 'peruanize" it'." The Neo-Peruvian is born of this intention and, in line with other similar movements in Latin America, was trying to 'find the roots', to build them from the available symbolic context.
