The election of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the first Latin American pope and the first Jesuit pope, was a surprise for everyone. The new pope has made an impact with his simplicity and closeness, starting with his first greeting from the balcony of St. Peters Basilica, when he said that the cardinals had gone to look for a bishop for Rome to the "ends of the Earth," prayed with the people, and qualified the role of the church as a "path of fraternity, of love, and confidence amongst us." There is no doubt: there is a new charisma taking the helm of Peter's ship. This book starts with the resignation of Benedict XVI and relates, step by step, the election of Pope Francisco, and includes the principal biographical data of the new pope. It is the chronicle of several intense weeks, full of news that has surprised the church and the world.
