What the author intended is to recreate a city that has disappeared rapidly in the last half of the last century. Madre de ciudades is not a history book, it is not an autobiography, it is not a scrapbook. It begins with the diffuse memories that the author keeps of the Revolution of 1947 and concludes with the overthrow of the dictatorship. It departs from the solemnity of historians and the intellectualism of sociologists to offer the reader an amusing account of a city that some of us have met and who cannot discover it.
