"Book deals with an Enlightenment figure, the 'other' teacher of Simón Bolívar. Argues that Rodríguez's ideas and contribution have been unreported and unlauded, both in terms of shaping of American thought and the development of the philosophy of education. Also argues for Rodríguez as a model to combat pernicious outside influences, by which the author means American capitalism"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
